Geotechnical Engineering is an art and a science and can have significant project performance, safety and cost consequences. Due to the technical nature of our business, all of our geotechnical engineers have graduate degrees in the specialty, unlike many of our competitors. We understand and apply, as appropriate, the latest engineering design and analysis techniques. GES’ Geotechnical Engineers are equipped with the most advanced tools available for modeling and analysis of soil conditions.

GES operates state-of-the-art numerical simulation software to analyze deformation and stability of structures as well as other software packages for modeling and analysis of retaining wall systems and slope stability. GES also owns and operates a pressuremeter to perform in-situ soil testing. Pressuremeter data is used in conjunction with conventionally recovered soil samples and allows GES’ Engineers to predict foundation capacities and settlements more accurately for very heavily loaded structures.

Industry Accreditations

High quality data is critical to engineering decisions in the office and in the field. Our laboratory is accredited by A2LA (American Association for Laboratory Accreditation, Certification # 2718.02) allowing a comprehensive range of geotechnical and construction materials tests. Laboratory operations and equipment calibration are conducted in strict compliance with A2LA and the GES quality manual. Laboratory personnel undergo extensive and continual training. Testing is performed in accordance with ASTM, TxDOT, or other appropriate standards.

GES is also accredited by AASHTO (American Association of Highway and Transportation Officials). Results are reviewed and assessed daily by engineering staff for accuracy.​​ The AASHTO Accreditation Program (AAP) is the largest accrediting body in the construction materials industry. In addition to being an AASHTO-accredited laboratory, GES has proven their commitment to quality and can set themselves apart from their competitors.

Construction quality control is maintained through the acquisition and rapid dissemination of accurate construction materials testing and inspection information. Collected information is then used to confirm or adjust construction materials or methods to conform to project requirements.

Oftentimes, the input of numerous project team members is required and timing is critical. As a result, two key requirements must be satisfied for a successful construction materials testing program: 

  • Field and laboratory personnel must be trained and competent in their area of expertise, and 
  • Test data and inspection results must be accurately and rapidly distributed to the project team.

Most good construction materials testing laboratories can meet the first requirement, but fall short in meeting the second requirement. GES has built its business around consistently meeting both requirements. 

Obtaining, maintaining and retaining a highly skilled inspection and testing team are the result of two principal efforts:

  • Creating and maintaining a respectful work environment where individuals are appreciated, open communication encouraged, and meaningful work assignments available; and
  • Providing ongoing internal and external staff training programs to continually improve individual skills. In an industry with a traditionally high labor turnover rate, GES has been able to maintain a field and laboratory staff with relatively low turnover.  

​We strive to create a “best in industry” mentality amongst our staff. Additionally, our management and staff is extensively trained and certified. Our technicians possess NICET, ACI, and TXDOT certifications. We continually invest in our staff to ensure that our technicians are skilled in technical and safety procedures. GES utilizes a proprietary electronic laboratory data management and report generation system. CMT reports prepared in PDF format are emailed to the Client and their designees. Report turnaround time is typically one day. GES also provides an extranet where CMT reports can be accessed by the Client at any time. CMT reports are automatically posted to our extranet when they are emailed. Our system is designed to provide high quality, real-time information and is unmatched in the industry.
